The State of Virginia

Long time no see, butts!

After a period of silence due to moving and just general laziness, we have returned with kinda silly reviews of things in our new home of Columbia (and surrounding areas), PA. Even though this is the most serious of business, no promises are made that we won't get lazy again... I mean, get caught up in the whirlwind of life and adventure!

Time to review our last place of residence: Virginia. Yes, the whole state.

Colton: Virginia is a state that began as the 13th of His Majesty's colonies, which eventually rebelled so we could do more subjugation and genocide of the nativ- I mean start a more free country. And now here we are! All of those years of development and history to prepare Virginia to be the host state of these two Baileys. They did a pretty good job.

Laura: Yeah! The kayaking and mountains were great, there was an amazing Korean spot that we ate at waaaay too much, we had room to keep bees for the first time, and most importantly we got to see ANDREW BIRD IN RICHMOND.
See this? This is perfection.
My soul ascends to the heavens.

Colton: I don't know if I would call that most important, but Mr. Bird did put on a good show and Richmond gave us a fun day, though we did leave one coffee shop to then later go to a different better coffee shop. We're really flippin' serious about coffee shops. The kayaking was hella choice, though, and it's good we had Kirstin and Jett to shove us into that vein of personal watercraft.

Kayaking the New River!
Laura: We also crafted many fancy dinners (like three) to the delight of our Virginia friends (like two... who are pretty great). The CSA we subscribed to to acquire fancy vegetables had a couple issues, bitter lettuce anyone? But it was literally across the street from our house. Colton and I also had jobs, but one was frustrating and one is protected under HIPPA.

Fancy fish soup. French af.
Colton: Virginian tech employers do seem to have a habit of prematurely laying off engineers, but PA was around to pick up the slack, thankfully. Probably Virginia's best qualities seem to be out-of-doors, e.g. the bodies of water, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and hot damn Sharp Top Mountain.
Virginians are also pretty nice, too! I will say that for one of the thirteenth colonies, there are areas where they seem to be a little short on freedom - they think they can tell you how safe your car should be(my decision, thankyouverymuch), and how dangerous your fireworks should be (for God's sake, VA, the 4th is your day! Celebrate like it!) and maybe other areas that I didn't personally become annoyed with.

Laura: Virginia was pretty nice. What made it great was the outdoors, one good coffee shop (see Idego review), and the people. Andrew Bird coming to play an outdoor show on a beautiful day didn't hurt either. We always said that maybe when we got old Blacksburg would be a good place to plant our butts, but Sweden has universal healthcare and cool old churches.
