Macado's is a restaurant with an identity crisis. Is it pronounced ma-CAW-does or MACK-a-doos? No one will ever know (spoiler alert: these fools call their restaurant Mack-a-doos). Anyway, we went here under a recommendation from a former B-burger told that we would find sandwiches and beer. And we did! And so, so much more.
Laura: So much more including a level of flair and decor that would stun that flair guy from Office Space. Since this post we have been back a second time to a different location (Macado's is a chain), and the atmosphere was just as overwhelming as the first time. As you will see in the following pictures, this eatery contains dinosaurs, king kong, too many framed pictures of anonymous people, superman, and palm trees. No, I'm not kidding.
Colton: It's crazy! There's no theme, no cohesion, no NOTHING! It seems Macado's will never be anything more than a mere monkey. But we should probably talk about the menu. The menu is as big and bodacious as the decor, with an almost dizzying array of appetizers, sandwiches, clubs(which are somehow separate from sandwiches), wraps, salads, soups, quesadillas, tacos, and italian entrees! Lasagna! You can even build your own club, I guess? It's a pretty classic sandwich, but they managed to give you three kinds of clubs and suggest that you perhaps could come up with a fourth! Perhaps my biggest beef with this menu is that all of the sandwiches have been named, even though like...two sandwiches actually have names that say nothing about their contents. The Reuben, the club....and maybe the BLT, even though that still explains its contents. Macado's isn't the only restaurant to have done this, but they named every sandwich, club, wrap, and some of their burgers. There are no less than 47 menu items with unhelpful names. Mind you, that's not all of the menu items, just the ones that require reading their descriptions to know what they are. As such, we just sort of looked at a couple and picked some for the sake of expediency. Oh, and ordered the Black Bean con Queso dip as an appetizer.
Laura: Aside from eating in the Jurassic period surrounded by TVs and a menu that is almost the length of a Wall Street banker's list of wrong doings, the food is pretty good. I enjoyed the black bean queso dip because black beans and cheese is an excellent combination. The only flaw with this seemingly simple crapetizer is the overly baked cheese lid that we peeled off the top of the dip.

As far as sandwiches are concerned I got some sort of chicken sandwich which was surprisingly really good. I also got a side of macaroni salad which was bland as all get out (to be fair, macaroni salad can be hard to nail just right).Colton: Having grown up eating bomb macaroni salads and potato salads, I was either spoiled by a family that really loves food, or it's not as hard as Macado's makes it seem. My sandwich was something with pastrami, coleslaw, cheese, and other stuff and was also delicious. My potato salad, on the other hand was sweet? Sweet and strange...our best explanation was that they put sweet pickle relish in it. Great beer selection, though, which thankfully isn't particularly unique in Bburg although always appreciated. So with all of Macado's flaws, that hasn't stopped us from coming back and wisely avoiding their salad sides for fries. I had a burger with nacho cheese on it, and it was very satisfying. I don't know if we'll ever be brave enough to try their quesadillas, tacos, lasagna, chicken parm, wraps, soups, etc, etc. Jesus, that menu:

Laura: Yeah, Shmacado's is a great place to grab a sandwich and beer and revel in the madness that is their decor. I have also heard from some locals that the restaurant hosts a 39 cent wing night on Thursdays, and I can't be mad at that. But seriously Macado's cut your menu down by at least half, there is no reason to put your cooks/chefs through that hell.
Colton: And your patrons! Who knows how much anxiety has been induced for having to pick from something so intimidating. Anyhow, we've been back before and will likely be back again.
Grades:
Laura: B+
Colton: B+
